Managing Honorific Nominations for Cornell Faculty

Introduction to the Faculty Awards Portal

The Faculty Awards Portal Supports

  1. Faculty indicate the honorific awards they are interested in as a part of their annual report process.
  2. Department chairs and awards committee members facilitate those nominations.
  3. Reports provide visibility into this process for executives at the department, college, and university levels.

Who can use the Faculty Awards Portal?

  • This prototype is currently restricted to two departments: Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
  • If you are interested in being a part of an expanded pilot, contact Paul Davis at prd9@cornell.edu.

How to get support?

  • Email Paul Davis at prd9@cornell.edu or call him at 607-254-5068.
  • There are additional videos in the updates section that may be helpful as well.

More Details

The Faculty Awards Portal is a new application being developed by the Cornell Office of the Vice President of Research and Innovation. Its goal is to increase Cornell’s share of honorific awards by making it easier for faculty to indicate what awards they are interested in, and helping department chairs and awards committees to facilitate nominations for those awards.

The application supports an awards nomination process that leverages the faculty annual reporting cycle. Faculty submit a list of awards they would like to be nominated for. The awards committee or chair help facilitate those awards and track who is writing for each nomination. The application allows tracking the nomination status, the nominator, and letter writers and allows capturing documents and comments associated with each nomination.

The project is currently in limited release and is targeted at the needs of department chairs and awards committees, but there is already a lot of reporting capability that should be useful at the college and University level.

Here’s a summary of the roles and their capabilities.

Faculty can:

  • Search for awards, explore award details, and find other winners from Cornell
  • Enter the awards they would be interested in receiving in the short, medium, and long term (“Awards Plans”)
  • View (and if needed) update the awards they have won (we subscribe to a list of awards won by Cornell Faculty)
  • Generate a report of their list of awards and their awards plan to submit for their annual report

Department chairs and awards committees:

  • View nominations planned for this year in their department (based on the awards plans)
  • Facilitate nominations and track who they have contacted and their responses
  • Track nominator and letter writers and upload their comments and documents
  • Be notified via email at important points in the nomination process
  • View Reports of nomination activity in their unit and award activity across the university
